Mossley made it two wins out of two for new management team Dave Wild and Terry Hincks as they saw off the challenge of Ossett Town at Seel Park on Saturday.

The Lilywhites bosses made just one change to the starting line up with Tyrell Palmer making his first start in place of Adam Latham who dropped to the bench while James Blair came into the squad for the first time since he was injured in March 2017.

The Lilywhites always looked to have the edge in the first half with Andy Keogh, Keenan Quansah and Jack Tuohy controlling the midfield while Palmer and Mason Duffy were a constant threat on the flanks.

Mossley took the lead in the 12th minute. Palmer’s clever through ball released Quansah down the left channel and his dipping shot crashed against the bar before Mason Duffy volleyed home the rebound.

Ossett pegged back the lead ten minutes later when after Tom Dean was harshly penalised for a foul on the left touchline and Nelthorpe’s free kick was headed home at the near post by Martin Pembleton.

Mossley edged ahead again on 34 minutes. Duffy’s powerful shot was deflected for a corner and Tom Dean headed home Dieter Downey’s right wing flag kick.

The lead appeared safe to the interval as Ossett were able to create little in the way of a response but on the stroke of half time the visitors won a corner. Nelthorpe was again the provider as Ashley Jackson headed the equaliser.

Undeterred Mossley pressed on in the second half but it was Ossett who came close when Logan Jeffs made a dramatic goal-line clearance to deny Peterson before the Lilywhites were rewarded for their efforts on 63 minutes. Jeffs long throw from the right found it’s way to Jack Tuohy who hammered home from close range at the far post.

The real drama came in the closing minutes. Substitute Liam Ellis hammered a great shot inches over the bar before Mossley thought they had a fourth goal when fellow sub Danny McLaughlin scored at the far post but the goal was controversially ruled out for off-side.

A relieved Ossett then had a real go to salvage something from the game. Mackie raced through a gap to score but was given off-side and in the last minute rookie keeper Callum Spencer made a stunning save to deny Yates and the points and the day belonged to the resilient and hard working Mossley team.
