Mossley went out of the Integro MPL Cup at the 3rd round stage at Seel Park on Tuesday evening as despite dominating possession and territory throughout the game, the Lilywhites were somewhat mugged by Ramsbottom United who scored with each of the only three shots they had in the entire game.

In truth there weren’t a lot of chances in the game but the Mossley lads showed a big response to the recent heavy defeats and made all the running.

However, they came up against a well drilled Ramsbottom defence who seemed to be in the right place at the right time to repel everything the Lilywhites could throw at them.

When Mossley got round the back of their defence the final ball mostly eluded a Mossley player.
With 25 minutes gone and a Mossley goal looking increasingly likely Ramsbottom scored with their first effort on goal, but what an effort it was as a sweetly struck 25 yard volley by Eddie Moran gave Ollie Martin no chance as it flew into the roof of the net.

The visitors seemed happy to soak up Mossley pressure and they did that extremely well as the Lilywhites tried to get back on level terms.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Mossley raids were repelled again and again. Mossley coming closest when Jack Tuohy headed narrowly wide from a great position and substitute Tom Fisher had his powerful goal-bound drive somehow hacked away.

The result was secured for the visitors with just six minutes remaining. Mossley made a hash of a short corner and Ramsbottom broke quickly with Chris Rushworth finishing off a direct move with the Mossley defence stretched.

The result was given a very flattering look in the last minute when Jerome Wright burst up the left wing and scored with an unlikely angled drive that somehow found it’s way into the Mossley net.

It was a much improved performance by the Lilywhites after the Goole debacle but the team really needs a lift after now going nine games without victory since the new year.
