Mossley were left reeling by a penalty and two wonder goals that gave the score-line a flattering look in the home sides favour after the Lilywhites had clawed their way back into the game with an equaliser on the stroke of half time.

A crowd of over 800 witnessed Mossley’s first visit to Scarborough’s new stadium and the home side got off to a flying start when Billy Logan pounced on a defensive mistake to race clear and slot the ball past the stranded Oliver Martin.

The home side buoyed by the early lead were causing Mossley plenty of problems with Grimsby Town loanee winger Max Wright causing plenty of problems with some speedy runs and rifled crosses while left back Dave Merris cannoned a shot off the Mossley post.

However, Mossley weathered the storm and began to get on top as the half wore on. Early substitute Sam Howell missed a great chance to level things up before Mossley equalised on the stroke of half time as Jack Tuohy’s right wing corner was powerfully headed home by skipper Tom Dean.

After another early flurry by the home side in the second half, Mossley again began to cause problems and after some great chasing down by Tuohy, Liam Ellis raced clear only to see his effort superbly blocked by ‘boro keeper Tom Taylor.

It was to prove a costly miss as a couple of minutes later Michael Coulson was needlessly brought down by Martin and the same player fired home from the penalty spot.

Substitute Adam Latham missed a great chance to equalise for Mossley but again the Lilywhites were punished for missed chances as Scarborough scored two wonder goals to kill the game off. Firstly Dave Merris raced onto a loose pass to fire an unstoppable 25 yarder past Martin and then in the last minute Max Wright cut inside two defenders before hitting a superb dipping shot from outside the box that gave Martin no chance.
