North West Counties League promotion hopefuls 1874 Northwich gave Mossley their toughest test so far in Tuesday night's first home pre season game but Mossley came through with a slightly flattering 3-0 win.

Mossley got off to a positive start and when Liam Ellis was tumbled in the box just four minutes in, Matty Kay stepped up to rifle home from the penalty spot.

The game swung from end to end with both sides intent on playing passing football at a good tempo.

Mossley lost keeper Jonny Diba Musangu through injury on 15 minutes with Marcus Burgess his replacement and he was called into action to deny former Mossley player Callam Gardner's goal-bound effort.

Chances were created and missed by both sides before the Lilywhites doubled the advantage on 28 minutes as Kay's sliderule through ball found Mason Duffy who confidently clipped the ball past the impressive Northwich trialist keeper.

The second half again saw an end to end affair. The visitors keeper making two fine saves to deny new boy Ben Halfacre's powerful shots.

Mossley finally put the game to bed on 87 minutes when Danny McLaughlin cut past two defenders before seeing his deflected shot find the back of the net.
