Mossley gave a debut to goalkeeper Ben Purdham with Jonny Diba Musangu out through injury and who, despite the 6-2 defeat, did little wrong in a game where Colls lively front line were able to pick unlikely holes in an unusually vulnerable looking Mossley defence.
Tormenter in chief was Colls number 9 Jordan Cover who bagged a hat-trick in the fixture for the second successive season.
Cover's opener had an element of luck about it as Colls were awarded an 11th minute penalty after Logan Jeffs had upended the lively Gareth Peet. Cover saw his spot kick well saved by Purdham but the ball fell kindly to the same player who scored from the rebound.
As the game swung quickly from end to end with few chances Mossley got themselves back on level terms on 37 minutes. Aaron Dwyer's right wing cross saw Max Leonard brought down by Dave Sherlock and Leonard smashed an unstoppable spot-kick past Hartley.
Colls almost regained the lead just before the break as Danny Lambert's powerful 25 yarder cannoned off the near post.
Lambert only had the half time break to wait before getting on the score-sheet though as he took advantage of slack Mossley marking to head home from close range from a right wing cross with barely a minute on the clock.
Mossley were level again when Sherlock fouled Mike Fish in the box and the Lilywhites were awarded a second penalty. Max Leonard smashed the spot kick home sending Hartley the wrong way.
Mossley had a great chance to forge ahead. Substitute Ben Richardson almost capitalized on a defensive mix up but his miscued effort at an open goal trickled wide of the post.
Having survived Mossley's spell of good momentum Colls took the lead for a third time on 63 minutes. Bentham's powerful shot hit the woodwork and Cover pounced to score the rebound.
Andy Keogh came close soon after with a mazy run that saw his effort slam against the post and away to safety but the Colls lead was stretched to 4-2 soon after as Tom Bentham broke clear and finished well from the edge of the box.
Mossley then lost Ben Richardson with an eye injury which needed hospital treatment and that coupled with that fourth goal proved to be the game killer for Mossley but it was disappointing to see heads drop to something of a late capitulation as Cover smashed home a low shot to complete his hat-trick.
Then in the last minute home skipper Danny Lafferty easily headed home from a corner to complete the scoring and complete Mossley misery in what ended a very disappointing afternoon for the Lilywhites.
