Both sides had to be content with a point in Saturday’s 1-1 Seel Park draw as 3rd placed Mossley hosted 4th placed Radcliffe.

Mossley were without the injured Mason Duffy while Aaron Dwyer was omitted from the squad but were boosted by the return to the starting line up of Godwin Abadaki.

The game never really lived up to it’s billing as midfield was under employed by both sides in preference for a more direct approach, particularly in the first half.

Radcliffe were the brighter side in the first half as Mossley looked sluggish and a little off the pace in the early exchanges.

Radcliffe caused Mossley problems early on as some static defending allowed Shelton Payne a sight at goal but he screwed his shot wide before Jonny Diba Musangu made a great double save to deny Wharton and Rokka.

The visitors couldn’t be begrudged their lead on 11 minutes when Boro skipper Rick Smith looped a header that dipped just under the bar from Metcalfe’s corner.

Mossley finally found something in attack and Mike Fish saw his header easily collected by ex Mossley keeper Ollie Martin.

The second half saw Mossley come more into the game and as the pressure increased the equaliser finally arrived on 71 minutes. Ben Richardson’s long throw from the right was flicked on by Andy Keogh for Adam Jones to control off his hip before volleying powerfully past Martin from eight yards.

Mossley now looked the more likely side to go on and win the game but they shot themselves in the foot with ten minutes remaining as Steve Mason got involved in an altercation with Boro’s Prince Haywood and was shown a red card for the second successive game, leaving the Lilywhites to negotiate the final ten minutes with ten men and, despite Radcliffe forcing a couple of stoppage time corners, the Lilywhites held on for the shared spoils.
