Despite the narrow solitary goal score-line, Mossley completely dominated the home fixture against Trafford at Seel Park on Saturday.

An unchanged line up saw Mossley continue in the same vein as the previous outing at Colwyn Bay with a convincing and controlled performance.

Trafford saw very little of the ball as the Lilywhites controlled possession for pretty much the entire duration of the game. Trafford’s only opportunities coming from a couple of second half breakaway counter attacks.

Mossley had a great chance in the opening minutes but Mike Fish fired over the bar when well placed as Mossley set the tone for the afternoon.

In the 14th minute Mossley had the ball in the net as Max Leonard volleyed home but the referee deemed that the Lilywhites leading scorer’s raised shooting foot dangerous and controversially chalked the effort off.

Fish and Adam Jones both had further chances before the half’s close

The game’s only goal arrived five minutes into the second half. Ben Richardson’s in-swinging left wing corner was palmed out from under his bar by Trafford keeper Matt Cooper but straight onto the head of Adam Jones who looped his header just under the bar.

Trafford had a chance soon after as left back Darius Palma raced clear but Josh Ollerenshaw came out to save comfortably at his feet. The warning went unheeded as a few minutes later substitute Adam Farrell raced clear but he was denied by a fantastic covering tackle from the lively Godwin Abadaki.

Jones was again in action with Mossley’s best chance to double the lead but this time his header flew over the bar.
With four minutes added time signalled the Lilywhites played the clock down superbly in the corner to keep hopes of a play off place alive despite results elsewhere on the day not going in Mossley’s favour.
