Mossley were simply too good for a youthful Oldham Athletic side in Saturday's first home pre season game.

The first match to take place at Seel Park since February saw new manager David Fish shuffle his pack for this one and played a completely different starting line up to the one that won at Chadderton a few days earlier and again a few players were able to get a full 90 minutes.

It was local boy Danny McLaughlin who led the line on this occasion and he did so with great aplomb as he completed an impressive hat-trick in the 5-1 demolition of the Latics youngsters.

Mossley dominated the game throughout and after some early pressure took the lead on 9 minutes. Rochdale loanee Keaton Mulvey crossed the ball in and Danny McLaughlin was in the right place to bundle home from close range.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 and it was Danny McLaughlin again Uchegbulam and Fitzgerald combined to great effect to tee up the Mossley number 9 who again made no mistake from close range.

Mossley continued to hold the upper hand as the game compressed into Oldham's half and the inevitable third goal arrived on 38 minutes when centre back Steve Mason powerfully headed home from Kilner's pin point right wing cross.

Early in the second half Oldham briefly threatened a recovery and reduced the arrears thanks to an Isaac Modi shot from outside the box that took a wicked deflection to give Lovell no chance.

The Latics recovery didn't last long though as Jes Uchegbulam made it 4-1 on 60 minutes, Uchegbulam's cross from the right saw Danny McLaughlin head home to complete his first Mossley treble.

Five minutes later the scoring was completed as Jes Uchegbulam headed home from Mulvey's left wing corner.

There were several further chances through Shenton and Fitzgerald but the rampant Lilywhites weren't able to add to the score.
