A well taken first half Jack Banister finish was enough to give Mossley a solitary goal win at NWCL side Irlam at a damp Silver Street on Thursday evening.

The game having been put back two days because of the mini heatwave witnessed Mossley's first half performance the best of pre season so far, playing neat pass and move football through the thirds and creating several chances. The best of these that was unrewarded saw a flowing move end with a diving header by Louie Potts that found the keepers gloves.

The only goal of the half and indeed game was an equally excellent move. This time Pottts was the provider as his run and pass found Jack Banister on hand to finish calmly from the edge of the box.

A lively Irlam failed to overly trouble Mossley's defence in a mostly dominant first half performance. Irlam's pace down the channels was comfortably countered by the reading of the Lilywhites back four.

The second half saw a good number of substitutions and the game became more disjointed. Mossley still enjoyed plenty of possession but it was Irlam who came closest to scoring when a shot from the edge of the box came back off a post.
