MOSSLEY PREPARE FOR BOXING DAY 'DERBY'

22/12/06

Mossley are in derby action on Boxing Day as they welcome neighbours Ashton United to Seel Park in a UniBond League premier division basement battle.

The Lilywhites are without a win in 10 league matches and, worringly, are seven points adrift of safety.

But manager Jason Beckford, who will be without suspended central defender Gary Furnival on Boxing Day, still believes his side can stave off relegation.

Having won two promotions in three seasons, Mossley are finding it tough going, and their cause is being hampered by criticisms from fans.

Beckford said: “I look at Southend United, who won League One last season, and who are bottom of the Championship as an example.

“Fans are sadly mistaken if they thought we could keep ploughing through the leagues.

“They are entitled to their opinions and I accept they are upset, but so I am with our position. But we need fans on our side and to get behind the players.”
