BECKFORD DEMANDS 25 POINTS IN SAFETY PUSH

19/01/07

Jason Beckford has set Mossley a survival target as they bid to banish the threat of relegation from the UniBond League’s premier division.

The Lilywhites manager believes his side will beat the drop if they collect 25 points from their last 15 league fixtures, starting with tomorrow’s home game against mid-table Gateshead.

It is a big ask, bearing in mind Mossley have only picked up 19 points from 27 league games.

Beckford was cheered by Mossley’s display against leaders AFC Telford United last Saturday when they lost 4-3 to a disputed last-minute goal.

“I think everybody in the ground, with the exception of the referee, saw the handball but that has been the story of our season,” lamented Beckford, whose depleted side crashed out of the Manchester Premier Cup to North-West Counties League side Flixton in midweek.

The Mossley manager says he cannot fault the effort and commitment of his players and believes there is enough character in the team to avoid the drop. Victory tomorrow would provide a perfect platform.
