BECKFORD UPBEAT IN BATTLE TO BEAT DROP

Mossley go to Lincoln United tomorrow as they continue their battle against relegation from the UniBond League premier division.

The Lilywhites ended a dismal run of 11 league games without a win with a 4-0 defeat of Frickley Athletic last Saturday, but they remain nine points adrift of safety after a 1-0 New Year’s Day loss at Ashton United.

Manager Jason Beckford is still confident Mossley can sidestep the trap door in the second half of the campaign.

Beckford said: “Those two games over New Year has given me the belief that we can stay in this division.

“We had a great win at Frickley, which we had been threatening to do for some time, and we were unlucky not to get something at Ashton United.”

Captain David Eyres is likely to be ruled out again because of an ankle injury, while Christian Cooke is doubtful after picking up a groin strain on Monday.

Striker Peter Wright has a hernia and can only be used sparingly. He is expected to be named among the substitutes once again. (Wright's former strike partner Chris Ward has signed for First Division Clitheroe following a seven day approach - Orph).
