International striker for Mossley

04/11/08

St Kitts & Nevis International striker Matthew Berkeley signed for Mossley in time to make his debut in tonight's game at FC Halifax Town.

Berkeley (21) began his career with Gretna making 15 appearances and scoring 2 goals as the now sadly disbanded border side gained promotion to the Scottish 1st Division and spent 9 games on loan at Conference North side Workington in 2006.

He scored his first goals of the loan period in style, netting a hat trick against eventual champions Northwich Victoria at Borough Park. He was again the star player for Workington in a 3-1 win at Alfreton although he didn't get on the score sheet.

He returned to Gretna to help their Scottish Cup campaign. He was released by Gretna in 2007 and joined Altrincham.

Berkeley was released by Altrincham in late September 2007 after only 3 Blue Square Premier games for the club. In October 2007 he re-signed for Workington. He scored his first goals since returning to the club on a permanent basis when he scored 2 in the 5-0 win over Stalybridge in the FA Cup third qualifying round in October 2007.

Whilst with Workington the frontman was called up to the St Kitts & Nevis first team to take part in their World Cup qualifier against Belize, having already been capped at under 20 level.

He moved to Droylsden in June 2008 but a month later he joined the now troubled Leigh Genesis from where he has joined Mossley.
