LILYWHITES SIGN STOCKPORT DEFENDER

Shaun Higgins has snapped up 21 years old Stockport County central defender Gianluca Havern upon his surprise release from Edegley Park.

Havern came through the club youth system at Stockport County where he was captain of the Under-18 side and also had spells on loan at both Radcliffe Borough and Ashton United in 2007.

He made his Stockport County debut against Brentford in May 2008 and scored the winning goal.

With Stockport citing financial trouble, Havern was one of several staff released in January 2009. He left County having made only one appearance for the first team and was immediately taken on as trialist at Conference National outfit Mansfield Town, where he was soon offered a six month contract.

After the spell at Mansfield Havern returned to Stockport County and played for their first team in pre season this term. However, he along with winger Richie Partridge and Havern's fellow new Mossley signing Sam Hare have all been released over the last few days.

Havern will most certainly be looking for a move back higher up the football pyramid but his signing not only keeps him in the "shop window" but is a boost for Mossley at the present time due to skipper Graham Kay's continued injury enforced absence.
