Paul Bowler was Bryan Griffiths last signing as Mossley manager in November 1989 when he was snapped up from Chadderton, but he didn't make his full debut (a scoring debut at that) until Mark Hilton was appointed manager on the 4th December.
Bowler was a big talented centre forward who eventually made a formidable strike partnership with the legendary Brendan Burke.
He scored 14 goals from 28 starts before the season's end and was voted the Mossley Supporters Player of the Year that season despite his late arrival.
He was Mossley's top scorer the following (1990-91) season playing under three different managers, Mark Hilton, John Cooke and Les Sutton.
It was under Sutton that Bowler helped Mossley win the Manchester Premier Cup in April 1991 when the Lilywhites beat Droylsden 3-2 in the final at Manchester City's famous old Maine Road stadium.
He was again Mossley's regular number 9 through the 1991-92 season and scored twice in his final Mossley appearance, a 3-0 League win over Droylsden on 2-0th April 1992 under the management of Ged Coyne.
Chadderton were keen on regaining Bowler's services and prior to the start of the following season he was transferred back to Chadderton for a £1,250 fee. Chaddy's record signing to this day.

When Benny Phillips became Mossley manager in 1997 one of his main signing targets was lanky midfield player Peter 'Pedro' Brennan.
Brennan, a former Radcliffe Borough and Congleton Town player was signed from Mid Cheshire League side Grove United making his Mossley debut on the opening day of the 1997/98 season.
6' 3" and of slim build, Pedro was a natural athlete and was very much a box to box player.
What he lacked in natural skill he made up for in bucketloads by an extremely high work-rate, often seen heading clear in defence only to appear at the other end as Mossley attacked on the break.
He was voted by the Mossley fans as 'Player of the Year' in the Millennium season of 1999/2000 and the following season was the club’s top scorer with 20 goals.
Benny Phillips departed as manager in October 2001 and Pedro's last Mossley appearance was on 19th January 2002 in a 5-1 win over Atherton Collieries under Ally Pickering’s management.

Bradford Park Avenue
Mossley (446-20)
Born in Manchester in 1953,
Alan Brown arrived at Mossley from then Football League side Bradford Park Avenue in the close season of 1971 having been recommended to manager Don Wilson by the then club scout Bob Murphy.
Affectionately known as ‘Bomber’ a nick-name he shared with his more famous cousin, former West Bromwich Albion star Tony Brown, he made his debut as a right winger in the inglorious surroundings of Blackpool Mechanics for a pre season friendly.
Scoring twice on his home debut against Barnsley Reserves and then again in a 3-1 over a near full strength Huddersfield Town, Bomber was already a crowd favourite before the season had even begun.
Two goals in his opening three League games showed his potential further but he disappeared from the side after just 16 appearances and no further goals.
It was the following December with George Sievwright as manager and Bob Murphy as his assistant when Bomber made a surprise return to Mossley and was an almost ever present through to the end of the season.
By October of the 1973-74 season he had been converted to right back, a position he then went on to hold for the next seven years until a broken leg at South Liverpool on 8th April 1981 effectively ended his playing career as he decided to retire from football at just 28 years old.
Bomber’s distinctive style, cuffs held in hands and an almost bow legged gait saw him regularly darting forward as a wing back in the days when they were still called ’overlapping fullbacks’ and he tackled as hard as any natural defender.
He was ’Supporters Player of the Year’ in the all conquering side of 1978-79 and in 1979-80 he won his second League championship medal and played in the 1980 FA Trophy Final team.
He appeared on several occasions for the Northern Premier League Representative side and many neutrals considered him to be the best right back in the League.
Alan ’Bomber’ Brown made a total of 430 appearances for Mossley, placing him second in the all time appearances list, scoring 30 goals.

Born 29th July 1962.
Greg Brown signed for Mossley in the ill-fated 1983/84 season from Manchester amateur sidep Mather & Platt scoring 4 goals in 16 Mossley appearances having earlier been a junior at Manchester United and had also had a spell with Stalybridge Celtic.
He moved to Hyde United and then Southport before going to New Zealand to play for Napier City Rovers midway through 1985.
Despite being sent off in his club debut, Brown's goalscoring touch immediately turned struggling Napier's season around leading them from the bottom of the New Zealand National Soccer League to 1985 Chatham Cup winners in a final that became known as "Greg Brown's final", in which he scored one goal and set up two others in the 3–1 win over North Shore United. He was named man of the match in the final.
However, with Brown injured, Napier failed to avoid relegation from the national league during the following week's promotion/relegation play-offs and Brown was pursued by several national league clubs, eventually moving to Miramar Rangers for the 1986 season.
He was the national league's top scorer for the first half of the 1986 season but hit a dry spell due to injury during the second half.
In February 1986 he was selected in the New Zealand national football team, making four B-international appearances in friendlies against a touring USSR XI.
In 1987, Brown moved across to Australia to play for the Parramatta Eagles from 1987 to 1992 and the West Adelaide Sharks from 1992 until his retirement from professional football in 1994, aged 32.
He was named Australian football player of the year in 1990 and was picked in the Australian national team in 1991, going on to make 12 appearances and scoring one goal.
Brown joined Mitchelton FC in the local Brisbane competition in 1996 and was the club's head coach from 2004 to 2007.
From November 1997 to March 1999, Brown was coach of the Matildas, the Australian national women's team, and took them to a record 14 internationals without a loss.
He resigned from the position after the side's poor showing at the World Cup in the United States.

Bruce who stood only 5'6" tall was equally at home at centre or inside forward and proved an elusive opponent who could pass the ball accurately, even when running at top speed.
Despite his youth Bruce quickly became a regular Dons first teamer.
He toured South Africa with Aberdeen in 1927 and just before joining Middlesbrough for £4,500 in January 1928, he created history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a Scottish Cup tie and still finish on the lsoing side. He made his Middlesbrough debut in a 5-2 defeat at Bolton and was a member of the Middlesbroughside which won the Second Division championship the following season.
He was capped for Scotland against Austria in November 1933.
After seven saesons on Teeside duriing which he made 253 League and Cup appearances he was transferred to Sheffield Wednesday in October 1935 for £2,500.

Born in Oldham on 3rd July 1913.
Died 20th October 1992
Arthur Buckley was a winger of considerable promise. He began with Greenfield before signing amateur forms with Third Division North Oldham Athletic in March 1932.
He turned professional a fortnight after his nineteenth birthday and Leeds United paid £2,500 for him in October 1936.
He had scored 10 goals in 47 League games for the Latics. He proved a sound investment, scoring regularly and providing the crosses for Gordon Hodgson to convert into goals.
After being a regular for two seasons he shared the left wing duties with Jack Hargreaves for the last full season before the War.
After playing two of the three games in the aborted 1939-40 season, he was at Outside-Left in Leeds' 5-2 home win over Bradford Park Avenue in April 1940 in the initial War-time Regional League but did not play again until he was back on the Left Wing at Burnden Park for United's 0-6 hammering by Bolton Wanderers on 13th October 1945 in the final Wartime League season of 1945-46.
He spent much of the war on active service with the Army. However, he managed to play five games with Aldershot in 1940-41, while receiving his initial Army training there, and played once for Crystal Palace in 1942-43. But much of his leave was spent playing for his home town team, Oldham Athletic, as a guest during the Second World War, scoring seven times in 19 games in 1939-40, twice in 1940-41, three times in 1941-42, twice in 1942-43, and four times 1945-46, but did not add to his goal tally. He was selected for an Army XI against The Army in Naples on 17th May 1945. However, he was yet another player whose League career ended in the Second World War.
He was released by Leeds and, after failing to get a place at Oldham Athletic, he played with Mossley in the 1947-48 season and was top scorer with 26 goals from 43 games.
Although now 35, he moved on to Hurst prior to the 1948-49 season and went on to score 17 times in 35 games.

Brendan Burke started his footballing career as a junior at Manchester United.
In 1986 a change of management saw a clear-out and Brendan was released after four years at Old Trafford, a severe blow to his boyhood dreams.
He had a trial at Rochdale, who offered YTS terms, and then Crewe where he suffered a knee ligament injury after just 20 minutes of an A team game and that was the end of that.
Burke took a job in banking and played Oldham Sunday League soccer with Freehold before joining Oldham Town in 1989.
His semi-pro career started at Mossley when he was snapped up by the then Mossley manager Mark Hilton and slotted in the Lilywhites side forming a formidable strike partnership with the robust Paul Bowler.
Brendan made a terrific impact at Seel Park and went on to make 99 appearances scoring 32 goals before transferring to Witton Albion in 1992.
38 goals in 109 appearances at Wincham Park prompted trials at Port Vale, Burnley, Preston and Bury. Kenny Dalglish, then manager of Blackburn Rovers was even rumoured to be watching the striker’s progress.
In December 1994, Stalybridge Celtic paid a club record £12,000 for his services. He became a firm favourite with the Bower Fold fans during the next four and a half years, emerging as one of the best semi-professional players around.
He left Stalybridge in the summer of 1999 on a Bosman style transfer to Altrincham.
Injury prevented the Moss Lane fans seeing the Brendan Burke that they had seen star against them in the past and in June 2000, at the age of 29, the Middleton-based player reluctantly called it a day after taking a second opinion on a serious problem in his lower spine which could have affected his future well-being if he had carried on playing.
Burke had problems with bones between his vertebrae which were rubbing together, with the canals at the bottom of the spine which guide nerves into his legs and he also had three prolapsed discs.
The former Mossley star will be long remembered as one of the best semi-pro players of the 1990’s.
