Peter Hadfield was a tough tackling midfield player who began his football career with Ashton United in the 1962/63 season before joining Hyde United.
He returned to Ashton in 1968 making 41 appearances and scoring 10 goals.
A spell with Prestwich Heys followed before he returned again to Ashton in 1971 but signed for Don Wilson's Mossley shortly after.
He made 66 Mossley appearances scoring 11 goals before he was transferred to Droylsden in December 1972 and had later spells with Hyde United and Ashton United again.

Stephen Halford started his career at his hometown club Bury where he played 5 games in the Football League, before joining Chester City in 2001. He then joined Accrington Stanley in the 2002 and made 57 appearances, scoring 2 goals for Stanley.
After a brief spell at Radcliffe Borough he joined Droylsden in 2005 and made 106 appearances scoring 6 goals in five seasons for the Bloods before his release in September 2010.
He signed for Hyde on 1st October 2010 and made 32 appearances scoring 2 goals in the 2010/11 season. Halford took over as joint player-manager on a caretaker basis late in the season at Hyde and was awarded the Hyde FC Player's Player of the Year for 2010/11.
Signing for Mossley as a player in August 2011, he was then appointed Mossley Player-Manager in January 2012 following Gareth McClelland's departure appointing fellow Mossley player Peter Band as his assistant.
He he then led Mossley to a comfortable mid-table finish in his first season and to success in the Manchester FA Premier Cup. In his first full season as amanager he led Mossley to the promotion play offs where the Lilywhites lost in the semi final at Cammell Laird but Halford's team did retain the Manchester FA Premier Cup beating Salford City in the final at Edgeley Park, Stockport.
As a player Halford made 58 Mossley appearances, scoring 4 goals before resigning as Manager on the eve of the 2013/14 pre season friendlies to join Paul Phillips as joint managers of Ashton United.
Later became manager of Stalybridge Celtic, Glossop North End and Buxton.

Christopher Hall made his debut for Oldham Athletic at 16 years old in 2003 making him one of the youngest ever players to make their debut for the club.
He made 7 starts and 34 substitute appearances in the 2002-03 season, scoring four goals, all in the FA Cup. In 2007.
He then signed for Stalybridge Celtic where he was their top goal scorer and was called up to the England C squad. Hall moved to Bradford Park Avenue where he played between 2008 and 2010.
He signed for Mossley in February 2011 and played 12 games without scoring before he had later spells with Stalybridge Celtic again and Harrogate Town before retiring from football in 2013.

Geoffrey Hallas began his career with Droylsden and Mossley before National Service took him south and he played for Warminster Town in the Western League.
He represented the Wiltshire FA against Dorset FA and was then signed by Swindon Town. He was signed by West Ham United soon after and after playing firstly in the Football Combination side he made his first team debut against Leeds United on 5th March 1955. Unfortunately Hallas incurred a head injury during a reserve team match against Charlton Athletic. The blow to his head affected his sight and he was soon advised by doctors to give up football to avoid the risk of permanent injury.
West Ham held a Testimonial match against an All Star XI in aid of Hallas and team-mate Brian Moore who had also incurred a similar career ending injury.

One of three footballing brothers David Hamilton won caps for the England under-19's team. During his playing career, Hamilton played for six different teams in the Football League, making a total of over 300 first-team appearances, mostly with Blackburn Rovers (114-7) and Wigan Athletic (103-7) .
He started his career with Sunderland, and was there for three seasons before moving to Blackburn in 1981 and had a loan spell at Cardiff City (10-0) in 1985.
He spent three seasons with Wigan Athletic joining in 1986. After leaving Wigan in 1989, he spent one season with Chester City (28-0) before joining then Fourth Division side Burnley (15-0) in 1990.
After his retirement from professional football, he had spells with Great Harwood Town, Mossley (under Kevan Keelan) and Accrington Stanley.
Since ending his playing career he held a variety of roles in coaching and behind the scenes, including spells as a coach at Accrington Stanley and Preston North End.
He also held the positions of assistant manager and caretaker manager at Great Harwood Town and Rochdale, where he was also a youth coach.
He also worked as a scout for Derby County, Walsall and Wigan Athletic, where he was the club's first ever full-time chief scout.
He became the chief scout of League One side Walsall in June 2009.
In February 2011 he was appointed chief scout for Ipswich Town.

Gareth Hamlet was a hardworking centre forward who wasn't afraid to put himself about. Previously played for Halifax Town, Barrow, Emley, Ashton United, Stocksbridge Park Steels and Liversedge.
Signed by Gerry Quinn in the close season 2007. He was Mossley's leading scorer in 2007-08 season with 13 goals.

Thomas Lawrence "Lol" Hamlett played for Congleton Town, before joining Bolton Wanderers.
World War II devastated his career, limiting him to guest appearances for Stoke City and Manchester United. Playing for Stoke, he scored two goals in 35 games in 1941–42, one goal in 34 games in 1942–43, and then played ten games in the 1943–44 season.
A brief 19 game spell in the Cheshire League with Mossley followed in the first post war season of 1945/46 before he returned to Bolton Wanderers for the 1946-47 season.
In his three years at Burnden Park, he scored nine goals in 72 league and 13 FA Cup appearances.
He signed for Port Vale in May 1949 and went straight into the "Valiants" first team, making 40 Third Division South and four FA Cup appearances in the 1949–50 season. He then played 45 league and four FA Cup games in the 1950–51 campaign, as the club moved grounds from The Old Recreation Ground to Vale Park.
He lost his first team place after an injury in November 1951 and was released by new boss Freddie Steele in May 1952 after 25 league and cup games in the 1951–52 season. He returned to Congleton as player-manager, before retiring as a footballer.
Hamlett returned to Port Vale as the trainer-coach in July 1958.
He gave up his coaching responsibilities in May 1960, remaining as a trainer until March 1983 when he retired due to illness.
A religious man, he refused to use bad language, and thus used to motivate his players with words of encouragement. Instead of swearing he used say "fizzing" a lot, as in "the opposition are a fizzing tough bunch".
He served the Port Vale under ten different managers: Norman Low, Freddie Steele, Jackie Mudie, Stanley Matthews, Gordon Lee, Roy Sproson, Bobby Smith, Dennis Butler, Alan Bloor, and John McGrath.
He was given a testimonial match on 8 November 1976, Port Vale playing a Don Revie XI.

Raheem Shaquille Rushan Hanley was signed from National League North club Hereford FC in November 2019.
Hanley joined Blackburn Rovers from Manchester United following a successful trial as a junior player in 2010. He played regular under-21 football in the centre of midfield during the 2011/12 season as the Rovers Academy reached the final of the FA Youth Cup and the Academy League National Final.
He joined Swansea City in January 2014 and signed a new one-year contract with the "Swans" in April 2015. He signed a two-year contract with Northampton Town in June 2016 and made his senior debut for the "Cobblers" in a 3–0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in August 2016. He made 5 appearances before he then made 4 first team appearances on loan at Oxford United in the 2017/18 season but in March 2018 he was loaned out to Halifax Town for the rest of the season.
He was released by Northampton at the end of the 2017–18 season and joined Connah's Quay Nomads but moved to Chorley in April 2019.
Raheem joined Hereford in August 2019 after a successful trial period.
He represented England at under 19 level, being called up for the first time in October 2012. He went on to earn 3 caps. Hanley's grandfather was from St Kitts & Nevis and in November 2018 Raheem was called up to St Kitts & Nevis national team and made his debut in a CONCACAF Nations League qualifier against Canada.
He moved on to Radcliffe in January 2020.

Malcolm Harding began his goalkeeping career with Blackpool FC before signing for his local club Ashton United in 1961.
He made 108 appearances in 2 seasons for the Robins before joining Don Wilson’s Mossley early in the 1963/64 season. He made 37 appearances including helping the Lilywhites to the Manchester Intermediate Cup Final where they lost to a full strength Bury side. He made a further 44 appearances the following season before he departed for Buxton. He returned to Seel Park in 1967 and made 7 appearances in the 1967-68 season before losing his place to Wyn Dicken.
A spell helping out Stalybridge Celtic before returning to Mossley once more making 3 appearances at the beginning of the 1968/69 season due to Dicken’s unavailability and then returning to Ashton United before retiring at the end of the season after making a further 16 appearances for the Robins. However, it was the following season, 1969/70, that Harding is best remembered for.
Regular keeper Wyn Dicken was out injured and desperate for a keeper Don Wilson contacted old reliable Malcolm Harding to ask if he would step out of retirement to help for a few games. He duly obliged.
Harding played a blinder on his return debut as Mossley won 2-1 ironically at Stalybridge Celtic and then played every game of Mossley’s fantastic FA Cup run of that season.
He played in the side that beat New Mills, Rossendale United, Horwich RMI, Witton Albion and Morecambe in qualifying rounds. Mossley played Stockport County at Edgeley Park in the 1st Round proper.
The game ended 1-1 with both goalkeepers Harding and his opposite number Alan Ogley totally outstanding.
He was in great form in the replay also as Mossley were extremely unfortunate to lose 1-0 in the Seel Park replay watched by a crowd of just under 5,000.
Harding made 15 appearances before Dicken returned from injury in December. But, the following season he was back between the sticks for the Lilywhites again following Dicken’s departure to Stalybridge Celtic.
He played in the opening 17 games of the 1970/71 season before being replaced by an up and coming young keeper, a certain Gary Pierce.
Harding made a few appearances for Nantwich Town and had a spell with New Mills before he was able to hang up his gloves for good in 1972.

Born in Denaby on 15th August 1963.
An England Youth International, David Harle joined Doncaster Rovers in November 1980, after serving his apprenticeship.
He had made his debut for Rovers in a 0-3 away defeat at Port Vale on 3rd May 1980, but after playing sixty-one times in the League, thirteen of which were as a substitute, and scoring three goals, and starting one F.A.Cup tie and coming off the bench in another, as well as starting four League Cup ties, he was given a free-transfer to Exeter City in July 1982.
Harle was twice signed and then released by Billy Bremner. It was Bremner who re-signed Harle for Doncaster in September 1983, after he had scored six times in forty-three matches, one of which was as a substitute, for Exeter and, when Bremner became Leeds United’s Manager, he signed Harle again, this time for £5,000, just before Christmas 1985.
He had scored seventeen times in eighty-three appearances, three of which had been from the bench, and also found the net once in five starts in the F.A. Cup and started three games in the League Cup in his second spell with Rovers. However, he could not break into the Leeds team and within three months, the player began a loan spell with Bristol City, in March 1986, before joining them permanently in June 1986, for £10,000.
He scored twice in twenty-three League starts for Bristol but in November 1986, he joined Scunthorpe United, his fourth club within a year. He was able to establish himself with the Iron and scored ten times in his eighty-nine games for them, one of which was as a substitute.
The enigmatic midfielder was sent off in only his fourth game for United, but scored his first goal in his next outing. Voted 'Player of the Season' for 1987-88, he kept a regular place until January 1989 when he reportedly fell out with manager Buxton after being substituted. Then, in March '89, he literally walked off the pitch during a Reserve game against Grimsby, seemingly frustrated with things not going the team's way. By the end of the month he had moved on to Peterborough. Harle joined "Posh" for £15,000 in March 1989.
He made his debut at London Road on 27th March 1989 in a 3-0 home win over Colchester United. His first goal came on 7th October 1989 when Peterborough beat his former club Exeter City 4-3 at London Road. He scored twice in his twenty-two League starts for " the Posh" and once in three Football Trophy matches in his one year stay and then joined Doncaster Rovers for a third time, this time at a cost of £13,000 in March 1990. In his final stay at Belle Vue, he scored three times in forty-five League games, six of which were off the bench, he also started four F.A. Cup and one League Cup tie without scoring.
In 1991-92 he joined Stafford Rangers on loan, but was released by Doncaster in June 1992.
He then had a spell with Goole Town before playing two games for Mossley in 1992-93.
After his football career came to an end he subsequently worked for the Council in Doncaster.

Denzil Hart came to the UK as a teenager. The forward played for Hyde United and Ashton United in 1981 and joined Prestwich Heys two years later, helping them to a third-place finish in their first ever North West Counties League season before moving on to Mossley. Hart went on to manage Colne FC when it formed after the demise of Colne Dynamoes in 1996 and stayed there until 2000.
He also managed teams at Macclesfield Town Centre of Excellence and in the youth set-up at Manchester United.
He was awarded an MBE in 2011 for his voluntary services to grassroots football.

Luca Havern came through the club youth system at Stockport County where he was captain of the Under-18 side and also had spells on loan at both Radcliffe Borough and Ashton United in 2007. He made his Stockport County debut against Brentford in May 2008 and scored the winning goal.
With Stockport citing financial trouble, Havern was one of several staff released in January 2009. He left County having made only one appearance for the first team and was immediately taken on as trialist at Conference National outfit Mansfield Town, where he was soon offered a six month contract.
After the spell at Mansfield Havern returned to Stockport County. Signed for Mossley in September 2010 but transfered to Ashton United in October 2010.

After being a regular for the remainder of the season, scoring twice in 18 Second Division games, he fell out of favour. He scored four goals in 16 games in 1931–32, including one in a 9–3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
He featured just five times in 1932–33, and was transferred to Crewe Alexandra in January 1933. He later moved on to Stockport County, also in the Third Division North. Henshall managed 19 league appearances for Alexandra but was not picked for County before his departure to Ashton National.
He then had a spell in Ireland playing for Shelborne before signing for Mossley in 1933.
He went on to score an impressive 56 goals in 174 appearances for Mossley from the right wing and later played for Dinnington Athletic.

Keith Hicks signed associate schoolboy forms for Oldham at 15 and signed professional with his home town club in August 1972 making his League debut at 18. After just 3 appearances in his debut season he began the 1972-73 season as first choice in central defence and remained their for 242 appearances scoring 11 goals.
He was transferred to Hereford United in September 1980 and made a further 201 appearances in five seasons at Edgar Street, ending his Football League career with Rochdale where he made 32 appearances up to the end of the 1986-87 season.
Hicks then signed for Hyde United but after a short spell at Hyde he was appointed Player-Manager of Mossley on 29th November 1987 shortly after bringing with him his long term friend and team mate Graham Bell as his assistant. A complete change in the Boardroom meant that he was suddenly working under a new chairman and it was no surprise when Hicks and Mossley parted company on 5th September 1988 just six games into his second season.
He made 38 appearances for Mossley scoring 2 goals.
Hicks and Bell both amazingly returned to Mossley as players under Les Sutton in October 1991 Hicks making 23 appearances and Bell 27 before both were released by Sutton's successor Ged Coyne in February 1992.
Hicks also played for Radcliffe Borough while Bell had a spell with Horwich RMI.

Peter Higham was unlucky in the fact that Charlie Wayman was always the first choice centre-forward during his time with Preston North End, playing in 82 of a possible 92 games.
Having said that, Peter’s own goalscoring record of scoring 10 goals in 15 appearances is an excellent ratio. One to be proud of considering that Preston North End were one of the top teams in the 1950’s era. Wigan-born Peter knew from an early age that he wanted to be a footballer. He actually played for non-league Wigan Athletic whilst still attending Wigan Grammar School. In his later teens Peter was stationed in Portsmouth, doing his National Service, and joined Portsmouth, as an amateur, in November 1949.
After a few reserve games he was elevated to the first team, albeit for one single game, against Birmingham City.Once this particular National Service spell was completed, Peter moved back to Lancashire and signed for Bolton Wanderers.
Peter was a natural striker, sharp, quick-thinking, nimble and good in the air, but playing in Nat Lofthouse’s shadow, he never got the chance he deserved at Bolton.
Despite his obvious potential, shown by scoring totals of 49 and 44, for the Wanderers’ reserve and ‘A’ teams, he was released after two seasons by manager Bill Riding.
George Bargh made contact with him and Peter signed for Preston North End on 22nd May 1952, on a free transfer.
Peter made an impressive start to his North End career, scoring a hat-trick on his Central League debut, in a 6-4 win, away at Manchester City. Ironically he also scored another hat-trick against them in the return fixture, later that season. Peter played 31 reserve team games, scoring 25 goals during his first season at Deepdale.
The Central League in the 1950’s was a very competitive league with crowds of between 9,000 and 15,000 not uncommon, even at Deepdale.
Eighteen months after signing for Preston he made his First Division league debut under unusual circumstances.
On 14th November 1953, North End were to play away at Portsmouth but Charlie Wayman had not recovered from a septic toe. Peter just happened to be in the right place at the right time, as he was in Portsmouth attending a three-week National Service Royal Marines Commando Course. So Denis Hatsell moved to inside-right allowing Peter to wear the number nine shirt.
Although Preston won by 3-1, Peter received a personally cruel review from the local newspaper reporter using the pseudonym, ‘Ajax’. He wrote “Marine Commando obstacle courses of water jumps, walls and ropes do not breed footballers” A bit harsh considering we won!” Peter had to wait until October 1954 before getting a decent run in the team.
What a difference the headlines were to read after scoring a hat-trick in only his second appearance for Preston, in a 6-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday. Walter Pilkington wrote “Joy-day for Higham”, adding, ” Higham played with refreshing verve and vitality in giving a non-stop exhibition of coltish enthusiasm and industry”. Although Peter was handed fourteen games that season, scoring ten goals, the management thought that they could possibly do without his services. So when Nottingham Forest made a bid for him prior to the 1955-1956 season, the Club sold him for a good £4,000 transfer fee. Not bad business considering that he was brought in on a free.
Peter spent two and a half seasons with Forest, gaining promotion to the First Division with them in 1957. He scored 20 goals in 61 league games for them before going on to his next club, Doncaster Rovers. From Doncaster he made the decision to join the part-time footballing ranks and started in non-league football. Ironically he was to earn more by playing part-time and working part-time than he could by playing full time football! Pete was to score goals wherever he played.
At Mossley he scored 17 in 21 games, at Buxton it was 33 in 44 games, etc, etc.
He also had spells with Stalybridge Celtic, Altincham, Morecambe, Rhyl, and Wigan Athletic with whom he played for at Deepdale again, against Morecambe in the 1962 Lancashire Junior Cup Final.
In the mid-1960’s Peter became player/coach with Chorley Football Club in the Lancashire Combination. Peter in the meanwhile had taken and gained his full FA Coaching badge. He was to coach in Zambia, South Africa as one of 16 qualified coaches, alongside such personalities as Graham Taylor and George Eastham. Peter also spent ten summers going over to Virginia in the USA coaching football. Whilst playing part-time football, Peter attended Chorley College for three years, studying Sociology, English and Physical Education.
He advanced to teach PE in Bootle and Maghull in the Sefton area of Liverpool. Peter then worked at Park Lane Hospital Prison for the criminally insane as lecturer of PE, before going on to teach handicapped people in a Southport Day Centre on a part-time basis.

Mark Hilton joined Oldham as an apprentice in 1976 and signed professional in January 1978.
After 50 league games in midfield for Latics he signed for Bury in July 1981 on a free transfer and was a regular throughout his first season appearing in 34 games. He suffered a broken leg in a Lancashire Cup game in August 1982 against his former club Oldham and appeared in only two games during 1982-83, being granted a free transfer at the season's end.
Hilton then made his mark in the north-west non-league scene playing for Witton Albion and Ashton United (two spells).
He signed for Mossley under Bryan Griffiths in August 1989 as a centre half and when Griffiths resigned amidst internal upheaval on 2nd December 1989 Hilton was hurriedly appointed player-manager.
He brought in his brother Mike as his assistant and with the arrival of strikers Paul Bowler and Brendan Burke things started to look up for the once more financially struggling Lilywhites.
The Hilton brothers were retained for the following season but a poor run of results saw the Lilywhites struggling near the foot of the table and following a 3-1 home FA Trophy defeat by Southern Leaguers Atherstone United on 20th October 1990 Mark and Mike Hilton were dismissed.
Hilton had made 50 appearances for the Lilywhites scoring 4 goals. He returned then for another spell as a player with Ashton United and then Oldham Town.
Mark Hilton returned briefly to Seel Park as a player in the 1993-94 season during Dave Denby's brief spell in charge and made a further 6 appearances scoring 1 goal.

Known as a quick strong goal scorer,hard working and determined, Manchester born Danny has successfully come through the Centre of Excellence and the Youth team earning his first pro contract at Gigg Lane. Danny had a successful start to his scholarship with Bury after finishing his first season as Youth Team top scorer. He was also rewarded with a squad number for the first team though failed to make it off the bench. Failed to score in his 12 apperarances for Mossley and joined Radcliffe Borough following his release by Bury in 2012.

Born in Holywell on 26th September 1901. Died 1973.
Robert Arthur Hughes remained an amateur all his playing career. He turned out for Flint Town and then moved on to Chester, then playing in the Cheshire League.
His appearances were sporadic, but this was not down to lack of ability but due to work commitments, as he had already been picked to play twice for the Welsh Amateur side.
His ability saw him taken on by Blackpool, making his first team debut for Second Division side on January 2nd 1928 in a 4-5 home defeat to Grimsby Town.
The following week he was again selected for the first team for what proved to be his last appearance for the first team, a 4-2 home defeat to Chelsea. With work taking him south, Arthur joined Third Division South side, Clapton (now Leyton) Orient for the 1929/30 season, playing mainly for the reserves.
He made his Orient first team debut in a 2-1 home win over Swindon Town, with Hughes opening the scoring. Strangely, he played at outside-left as was to do for the next 3 games. For his fifth game he moved to inside left and then played left-half in his last game, a 3-0 defeat at Watford. Moving back north at the end of the season, Arthur was in search of a club. Having finished bottom of the Cheshire League and faced with the humiliation of re-election, the Altrincham committee were looking for a leader and in Hughes they found him.
Hughes was made Altrincham captain on signing and led the side by example; he was an ever present in the team during the 30/31 season, opening his Altrincham scoring account with a tense penalty that secured Altrincham a hard earned point in a 5-5 draw away at Chester in front of 4,708 spectators. His next goal, also a penalty, was merely a consolation as Macclesfield won, 6-1. But his third and fourth goals for the season both came from open play in the 4-1 win over Winsford United and a 3-1 win over Stalybridge Celtic.
Although not tearing up any trees, Hughes had help stabilise the club from going into to free fall and finished 4th in the table and reached the semi-finals of the Cheshire Senior Cup. The following season (31/32), Arthur again put in impressive performances, commanding at the back and chipping in with important goals throughout the season, (scoring 8 in all, 6 of them being penalties). The team finished the season in 4th place, as they had the previous season, but were knocked out of the league cup and Senior Cup at the 1st round stage. The only consolation was a good run in the FA Cup, making the 4th Qualifying round before surprisingly falling to the Yorkshire Amateurs at Moss Lane in front of 5,000 spectators. For his final season Hughes once again was a near ever-present but success in the cup competitions saw a decline in the side's league form, finishing in 12th place. In compensation, they again reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup and managed to reach the final of the Cheshire League Cup, where they drew with Manchester North End, 3-3 with the replay being carried over to the following season. Unfortunately, Arthur would not be with Altrincham when they lifted the trophy early the following season.
The Altrincham Committee had now become ambitious after the gradual improvement over the previous 3 seasons and they released Arthur at the end of the 32/33 season. He had no problem finding another club and he was soon installed as captain of Mossley, where he finished his senior playing career after 2 seasons, having played a further 95 games.

Signed for Macclesfield in the summer of 1920, remaining for two seasons with his appearances divided between inside-left and outside-left. In his first season he played in the majority of matches but in the 1921/22 season only appeared occasionally after the middle of November 1921. William 'Billy' Hughes began his football career with Irish League B Division club Larne FC from County Antrim where he played alongside his brothers Sammy and Francey. The 5’ 5” right winger signed for Bolton Wanderers in August 1948, it took some time for Hughes to make an impact at Burnden Park. He made his Trotters’ debut against Birmingham in March 1949, and took his total number of outings in his first season to three followed by six more in his second. Hughes was a regular in the Bolton number 7 shirt throughout the 1950/51, making a total of 33 firstteam appearances, and scored his first goal in a 1-0 win over Chelsea in September 1950. In March 1951 he won his first cap for Northern Ireland in a 1-0 Home Nations defeat by Wales, the emergence of the supremely consistent Billy Bingham insured that was Hughes’ only International cap. Similarly at Bolton, the emergence of Doug Holden early in the 1951/52 season saw Hughes fall down the pecking order, and he made a just seven more appearances before leaving Burnden Park in June 1953. Hughes joined Division Three (South) Bournemouth for the 1953/54 season but the club struggled to finish outside the re-election spots, and Hughes left after just one season. The tricky right winger spent the next decade plying his football in the Cheshire County League earning a reputation as a very creative goalscorer and provider. Hughes joined Cheshire League team Rhyl in 1956 and was an outstanding performer in their 1956/57 FA Cup "giant killing" season. Rhyl beat Notts County 3-1 at Meadow Lane in the 3rd round on 5th January 1957 and Hughes scored the 2nd goal from the penalty spot. Rhyl lost 0-3 at Bristol City in the next round. He then enjoyed a lengthy spell with Bangor City before joining Eddie Quigley's Mossley in August 1960. He proved an exciting acquisition scoring 27 goals from 51 appearances as Mossley enjoyed their best season in several years finishing in 4th place. The team also beat a strong Tranmere Rovers Reserves side 6-3 to win the Cheshire League Cup at Hyde United’s Ewen Fields ground in the final with the tricky Hughes scoring a fine hat-trick. He along with fellow winger John Willis also provided the service which helped centre forward Harry Gordon score a then club post war record 34 goals. The following season Hughes was still scoring and whipping in the crosses as he scored 25 goals in 50 appearances whilst also helping new centre forward Harvey McCreadie top the scoring charts with 30 goals as Mossley finished in 8th place in the Cheshire League and also win the Ashton Challenge Cup beating Ashton United 5-1 on aggregate in the final. The 1962/63 season saw the by now 33 years old Hughes score 9 goals in 36 appearances and then retire from playing at the end of the season. Hughes owned a Newspaper/Tobacconist shop in Bolton and passed away in 2005.

Died 23rd January 1999.
Charlie Hurst started his football career with Hyde United in the 1930s before playing for Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Rochdale. The Second World War, which took the best years of his footballing career, saw him serve in the British Army and he was one of the many soldiers rescued during the Dunkirk Evacuation in 1940. After the war had finished he returned to play for Oldham and then briefly Mossley (1-1) and Rochdale (4-1) before moving south, ending his footballing career playing for Chelmsford City and Sudbury Town. Hurst became player-manager of Sudbury in the 1950–51 season. He took the team to the final of the Suffolk Senior Cup and third place in the Essex & Suffolk Border League. Hurst was the father of England player and World Cup winner, Geoff Hurst. After finishing playing football he worked as a toolmaker in Essex.
