Mossley Reserves went to the top of the Galaxy Football Lancashire League following this 3-0 demolition of Colne Reserves at Seel Park on Thursday night.

The Lilywhites second string were rarely in trouble against a Colne side that lacked a cutting edge while at the other end, after a slow start, Lee Constantine and teenage debutant Sam Jones caused the visitors defence all kinds of problems with their pace and movement.

Mossley lost Matt Easter after only eight minutes when he was stretchered off and taken to hospital in an ambulance with a suspected broken ankle after an innocuous challenge.

In a goalless first half it was actually Colne who came closest to scoring when a Steve Cunningham 20 yard thunderbolt cannoned back off the underside of the bar.

The second half saw Mossley take control with the opening goal finally arriving in the 58th minute. Jordan Cuff slotting home at the far post after some heavy Mossley pressure.

The lead was doubled four minutes later when Alex Byrne's through ball saw Sam Jones race clear. The youngster, signed following an impressive showing for Abbey Hey in Tuesday's friendly, made no mistake as he slotted past the stranded James Kenyon in the Colne goal.

The third goal came on 75 minutes when the again impressive Lee Constantine slotted home after more Mossley pressure had seen the Colne defence crack and then crumble under constant waves of Mossley attacks.

Mossley ought to have had a penalty minutes later when Constantine was brought down after a mazy dribble into the Colne box but the referee waved away Mossley's appeals and the score remained 3-0.
