Mossley's newly formed reserve team got off to the perfect start in the their opening Lancashire League game with a resounding 4-1 beating of Lancaster City Reserves at Seel Park.

The Mossley squad included first team familars Nathan Neequaye, Connor Hampson, Lee Blackshaw and Jon McIlwaine, while new signing Aaron Chalmers captained the team and the Lilywhites watched by a healthy sized crowd dominated an entertaining and competitive game throughout.

Mossley forced all the early pressure and took the lead after 12 minutes. Alex Byrne's pinpoint cross from the right was headed neatly and impressively home by marauding defender Mike Jones.

Lancaster played some neat football and were unlucky to see Jack Cook's powerful shot come back off the post but McIlwaine's goal was untroubled for the most part.

Matt Chadwick had several efforts on goal that might have been rewarded on another night while Neequaye's pace was a constant handful for the youthful Lancaster defence.

Lancaster came more into the game after the break and scored a well taken equaliser through substitute Simon Wills who turned home a right wing cross on 55 minutes.

The goal only served to galvanize Mossley back into action and the lead was restored just five minutes later. Neequaye was bustled to the floor and Aaron Chalmers stepped up to curl a superb free kick around the Lancaster wall from 25 yards.

Victory was then secured when Alex Byrne's perfect through ball was well turned home by Chalmers for his second goal within a minute.

Mossley introduced Antony Dorney and he made an instant impact with a mazy dribble that almost brought a goal while Lee Blackshaw was similarly unlucky after beating several defenders on a typical run.

The final nail in Lancaster's proverbial coffin came eight minutes from time when Alex Byrne hit a fine 30 yard daisy cutter into the corner of the net giving the visitors well built keeper Rodgerson no chance.
