Mossley's reserve team enjoyed their first run out of the season at Wright Robinson on Sunday as they beat New Mills 3-2.

The Lilywhites dominated the first half and raced into a two goal lead. Both goals were created by the outstanding Joe Heap, who tormented his marker throughout. The opener saw Heap skip past three defenders before pulling the ball back for Nathan Tosum to fire home from 15 yards.

The second goal saw Heap pounce on a mistake by a Millers defender and his pull back again found Tosum who fired into the top corner from 12 yards despite being off balance at the time.

Mossley continued to carve openings and several chances went begging before New Mills reduced the arrears shortly before the interval when they won a penalty for a foul in a rare raid on the Moslsey goal. Mossley keeper Martin Pearson guessed the spot kick correctly but the ball flew past his dive into the bottom corner.

Mossley made a large number of substitutions at half time and for a while the Millers threatened to force an equaliser before making a large number of substitutions themselves.

It was Mossley who were next to score though, with a fantastic solo effort by young striker Prince Amadin. Amadin raced into the Millers box on the left and did a high speed double drag back before blasting home from a difficult angle.

New Mills pulled a goal back late on but Mossley deservedly held on for the win. There were some excellent performances from the Mossley lads, with Heap, Jordan Cuff and new boy Tom Ingham outstanding in the first half while Fabio Abreu's older brother Ruben was a constant threat to New Mills in the second half.
