Mossley Women faced one of their stronger pre season opponents in Manchester Unity Ladies but a scintillating first half display saw the Lily's take a five goal lead into the break.

That they didn't add to the score after the interval was due to a mixture of missed chances and some brave and solid goalkeeping by Unity's bespectacled number one.

Thaila Morley was again Mossley's tormenter in chief. She had the ball in the net within five minutes but the effort was ruled out for a narrow off-side. However, it took the Lily's striker until just the 11th minute to break the deadlock with a typically immaculate finish.

More chances came and went as the Lily's pressed high and compressed the game in Unity's half but had to wait until the 30th minute for a second goal scored with a powerful shot by Grace Burke.

Three minutes later Thaila Morley hit her second and then scored twice more in the closing minutes of the half to give the Lily's an unassailable lead.

Unity pulled a goal back inside a minute of the restart after half time but it was the Lily's who continued to dominate woman of the match Aaliyah Macey and defender Abbey Rogers integral figures as Mossley pressed the visitors throughout.

On the rare occasion that Unity broke then Megan Dickin was a confident and effective figure in the Mossley goal.

With some better finishing Mossley could again have scored double figures but on this occasion it wasn't to be but all augers well for the forthcoming season for the new Mossley Womens team.
