Mossley Women put in a big shift to comfortably beat League leaders Rochdale FC Ladies at Seel Park on Sunday afternoon.

Rochdale arrived unbeaten in 10 matches but Mossley always looked the better side and could really have won by a bigger margin.
Mossley had Maisie Blackshaw in the line up for the first time, having just celebrated her 16th Birthday and new signing from Stockport County Holly Callaghan also made her debut. Holly is, incidentally, the daughter of one time Mossley player Anthony Callaghan.

Callaghan was close to scoring the opener when her shot cannoned back off the bar while there were half chances for Blackshaw and Natalie Leaver.

The Lily’s finally took the lead on 40 minutes when the outstanding Elli Price raced clear onto a precision through ball from Holly Cuthbert and calmly slotted the ball past the stranded keeper.

Rochdale had actually posed very few threats and keeper Megan Dickin was able to comfortably deal with the few shots the visitors could muster.

The second half saw Mossley again on top and after missing a host of chances finally doubled the advantage with nine minutes remaining when Maise Blackshaw found space on the left channel and rifled a fine shot into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

The scoring was completed in the final minute of normal time when Holy Callaghan scored with a well taken shot from 18 yards to give the young Lily’s a memorable victory.
