Despite a valiant effort with six players out through injury Mossley Women went out of GMWFL Premier Cup to Bury AFC Ladies at the quarter final stage at Seel Park on Sunday.
Always a close game between these two excellent teams and Sunday was no different. Mossley again missing six players through injury put in a huge performance and were so unlucky to go out of the cup 2 - 1.
Two lapses of concentration in the first minute of both halves cost Mossley the game. But lady luck was not on the Lily's side with Bury's second goal coming from a corner that shouldn't have been awarded. A big shout for a Mossley penalty waved away and in the last minute a wonderful effort from Katie Evans somehow hit the post then bar and unbelievably stayed out.
Another goal from top scorer Kenzie Bentley made brilliantly by Ella Barnes just wast enough and there was an excellent display from Mossley's number one Meg Dicken.
Manager Dame Blackshaw said, "Gutted but proud basically sums it all up. I couldn't have asked for any more. We deserved something from the game, played the better football and I still dont know how Katie's shot didn't go in. We now move on and concentrate on promotion and next sunday we play Sale in a huge game for the Lily's at Seel Park".
