Mossley made hard work of beating a very well organised Foprmby side to reach the semi finals of the North West Youth Allliance Open Cup at Seel Park on Sunday with England Schoolboy International striker Fabio Abreu the match winner with two well taken goals.

Formby showed resilance from the off, with the Squirrels playing a high defensive line and closing down quickly Mossley's attacks were constantly thwarted by offside decisions and hurried passes, as the Lilywhites struggled to get time on the ball.

Chances were few in the first half though Mossley were lucky not to concede a penalty when Paul Speed was brought down in the box as he was about to shoot, the referee waving away the visitors appeals.

The game opened out more in the second half with Joe Heap causing consternation in the Formby defence and Alex Byrne was unlucky to see his effort come back off the post.

Mossley finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Fabio Abreu pranged the off-side trap and dinked a perfect finish over the advancing keeper from 20 yards.

Formby responded and were level five minutes later when Ryan Morgan controlled well on his chest to fire past James Dean from the edge of the box.

The game looked to be heading for extra time after Antony Dorney had spurned a couple of good chances until the game approached it's final minute.

A long ball out of defence caught Formby napping and the ice cool Abreu raced down the right flank to lob the ball over the advancing keeper from the corner of the box to earn Mossley a semi final tie against Nantwich Town.
