Mossley's unbeaten youth team enjoyed a comfortable passage into the final qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup with a 5-1 thrashing of Lancaster City, earrning an away tie against the winners of York City and Darlington.

Rob Byrne's Lilywhites youngsters gave a debut to new signing Wesley Harney, who has been playing first team football for Abbey Hey, and the youngster made a great start to his Mossley career, scoring twice in a man of the match performance.

Mossley had a tendancy to overplay in the early stages and took a while to settle against a lively Lancaster City side before Harney scored the first of his brace in the 22nd minute. A deflected glancing header following good work by Kyle McDonagh and Joe Heap.

Harney added his second on 36th minute using his pace to get round the Lancaster defence before rifling a shot into the bottom corner to give the Lilywhites a 2-0 half time lead.

The game was all but over as a contest a minute into the second half when Joe Heap netted his eighth goal of the season with a well struck effort that gave City keeper Fletcher no chance.

Mossley added a fourth on 58 minutes when Antony Dorney scored his eighth of the season with a cheeky back heel after creating space for himself in the Lancaster box.

Lancaster scored a consolation in the 66th minute when their best player on the night, Alex Meaney, thundered a great drive into the top corner from 25 yards.

Mossley bagged a fifth in the final minute. Substitute Matt Lyth made a great run on the right, beating three defenders before rolling the ball across for Andy McKernon to score from six yards.
