Mossley opened their North West Youth Alliance season with a thumping 7-1 victory over Marine at Seel Park with first team squad member Matt Chadwick leading the way with a hat-trick.

Marine opened brightly and retained possession well in the opening minutes without creating any clear openings and it was Mossley who came closest to scoring when Dorney headed wide from Heap's left wing cross. That chance was a sign of things to come as Chadwick and Dorney began to probe at the heart of the Marine defence and the opening goal finally arrived in the 22nd minute. Heap's cross found the feet of Jordan Cuff who, after appearing to have lost his chance with a heavy first touch, somehow poked the ball home from a tight angle.

Eight minutes later Mossley doubled the lead when Alex Byrne reacted quickest to Heap's right wing corner to find the roof of the net.

Marine looked to have found a footing in the game when a deflected shot by Chaloner wrong footed Mossley keeper Nick Howard to half the arrears in the 34th minute but five minutes later Mossley opened the two goal cushion again when the Marine keeper blocked Cuff's shot in unorthodox fashion and Matt Chadwick lashed home the rebound from close range.

Mossley put the result beyond doubt with two strikes in the closing minutes of the half. Firstly Andy Mckernan's clever run into the box from the left saw the Marine keeper block with a foot only for Antony Dorney to hammer home the rebound. Then, Chadwick added his second when he turned home Joe Heap's left wing free kick.

With the game won Mossley took their foot off the gas somewhat after the break but still added two further goals. A raking through ball by Byrne was coolly slotted home by Dorney on the hour mark and then ten minutes from time Matt Chadwick completed his hat-trick when he raced onto keeper Nick Howard's up field punt to finish well from ten yards.
