Mossley completed the double over New Mills at Seel Park on Sunday with another thumping victory with in form Joe Heap bagging a fine hat-trick in a 6-3 win.

After a sedate opening period Mossley began to find gaps in the visitors rearguard and New Mills were thankful to keeper Rob Whitehead for several good saves denying Jordan Cuff, Antony Dorney and Alex Byrne.

The game sprang to life in the closing minutes of the first half. A slip by Alex Clarke let in Aidan Muffatt who finished well to give the visitors the lead. That lead was cancelled out by two quickfire responses by Mossley.

Jordan Cuff hit a powerful drive that Whitehead could only parry into the path of Shaun Chapman who easily netted the rebound and within a minute Joe Heap had put Mossley ahead when he slotted home after a fantastic run on the by-line by Andy McKernon.

It might have been three on the stroke of half time but Whitehead made a bizarre triple save to deny Chapman, Dorney and Byrne.

Josh Pilley equalised for the Millers early in the second half as Nick Howard spilled a powerful free kick but Mossley quickly opened a two goal cushion.

Alex Byrne stroked home a superb 25 yard free kick and Antony Dorney headed home Heap’s right wing corner to make it 4-2.

Heap scored his second and Mossley’s fifth in the 60th minute with a brilliant 30 yard drive before the Millers reduced the arrears again when James Higgins slotted home after a good move on the right.

Man of the match Joe Heap completed his hat-trick and the scoring in the 80th minute with a super solo goal. Starting his run from deep on the left, he danced his way around several defenders to slot home.

The win placed Mossley at the top of the table with 10 points from 4 games also having scored a remarkable 22 goals.
