This game was switched from Seel Park to Wright Robinson Sports College with Prescot Cables providing the opposition and the result saw another three point haul to put the Lilywhites young bloods back on top of the North West Youth Alliance.

It was a game made difficult by a strong and resilient Prescot side who, despite arriving with a bare eleven players, allegedly due to the Merseyside derby, proved a tough nut to crack.

Mossley moved the ball efficiently around the midfield areas without causing the visitors many problems in the early stages and Prescot looked a threat on the break. In fact Cables ought to have taken the lead when Jack Dillon burst clear, but he put the ball wide of the advancing Nick Howard and the right hand post.

Mossley’s best attacking moves all afternoon came down the left with Man of the Match Andy McKernon and Joe Heap, who ran Andy a close second, a constant threat to the visitors.

The 3G surface at WRSC makes tackling difficult and pace high, but Mossley, playing all their football on the deck had a tendency to overplay in trying to create openings, although Heap, Antony Dorney and Alex Byrne all had efforts on goal either saved or off target.

The second half saw Mossley take complete control of the game but still could not find a way through, as the goal attempts increased in number and Prescot defended ever deeper.

The goal had to come and it eventually did, but not until the 81st minute. Heap’s great work in the box set up Jordan Cuff who’s mis-hit shot from close range somehow found the net despite desperate attempts to clear from the goal-line.

The goal deflated Prescot and they spent the remainder of the game penned in their own box as Mossley passed the ball around them, earning a second goal in the 85th minute. Heap again set up Jordan Cuff who fired home a well struck effort from the edge of the box.
