Mossley finished the UMBRO Tournament in style with a comfortable 3-1 win over Stalybridge Celtic to take 5th place in the competition at the expense of their near neighbours.

The Lilywhites made short shrift of seeing off Celtic in an exciting finale to their four day involvement at Keele University with three well taken goals.

Mossley opened at a blistering pace and caused the Celtic defence plenty of problems from the off. Celtic for their part resorted to some late and lunging challenges which were dealt with leniently for the most part by the referee.

Mossley played some great pass and move football and fully deserved the lead gained midway through the half when Alex Byrne flicked the ball over the stranded Celtic keeper.

Mossley ought to have been more than one goal clear at the break such was their overall dominace with first half keeper Saul Stapley rarely troubled. However, Hari Woski-Cawthorne, the youngest player in the squad, took over between the sticks for the second period and he made a good save before Mossley conceded a needless penalty which Celtic just about converted.

The shock equaliser did little to rattle Mossley and they regained the lead within five minutes with a well worked goal finished by Brad Byrne.

Man of the match Antony Dorney was unlucky not to score a sensational solo goal when he weaved past tackle after tackle before being blocked off in the box and Brad Byrne had two goalbound efforts blocked on the line as Mossley piled on the pressure.

Brad Byrne was on the mark again ten minutes from time to make the result safe and Mossley comfortably held Celtic at bay through the closing minutes.
