The new look Mossley Youth team got off to a shaky start going down 4-1 at a much improved New Mills on Sunday afternoon.

The game opened well for Mossley who comfortably soaked up the home side's early pressure before taking a 16th minute lead. Omar McKenzie found space on the right and he slipped a perfect through ball for Nat Martin to finish well from 15 yards.

The game started to swing the Millers way on just after the half hour when skipper Alex Chesters was injured in an accidental clash and had to be substituted. Tom Doyle being his replacement.

New Mills equalsied through Jordan Young in the a few minutes later following a defensive mix up and within two minutes the home side were in front two minutes later when Elliott Goodwin forced the ball home following another defensive lapse.

Mossley worked hard to regain control in the second half and went close on a couple of occasions before the game turned fully New Mills way following a bizarre penalty decision on 62 minutes.

Debutant keeper Hari Woski-Cawthorne came to collect a high ball and collided with a New Mills forward whilst catching cleanly. The young referee then amazed everyone by awarding a spot kick for the home side and giving the Mossley keeper a yellow card for a alleged dangerous play. Liam Millen scored from the spot.

Mossley's confidence visibly waned following this and New Mills added a fourth through Thomas Webb six minutes later.

Mossley hit the post shortly after following a McKenzie free kick but there was no way back for Mossley at this stage and the hard working and highly competitive home side ran out winners by a rather flattering margin.
