Mossley's went out of the FA Youth Cup by the only goal to a physical and direct North Ferriby United side at Seel Park on Thursday night.

It wa a game in which Mossley have only themselves to blame for defeat as they missed a number of good chances, particularly in the second half.

The first half was a somewhat bland affair in front of an excellent youth cup crowd. Tom Ingham and Kane Joyce were combining well on the right wing as were Andy McKernon and Omar McKenzie on the right, while Jake Hibbs gave another hungry performance. Unfortunately the front two of Adam Bezzina and Nat Martin never really clicked on the night and they had little joy around goal.

Ferriby's main threat came from the giant long throw ins by team captain Louis Bruce. Ryan McNee and Mitch Wood had to be strong to cope with the bodies thrown at them.

Mossley's only effort on target in the first half saw McKenzie's free kick saved by Ferriby keeper Luke Kinsley. Kinsley was also equal to a similar set piece effort by the same player in the second half.

The only goal came just three minutes into the second period. The visitors won a corner on left and won a free header that Nick Howard tipped away for a second corner. This time

New signing from FC United of Manchester Brian Totto replaced Kane Joyce just after the hour and he performed well showing some good skills and electric pace. Matt Singleton then replaced Nat Martin but still Mossley's shooting was wayward.

Bezzina fired over when well placed, as did Singleton and McKenzie while a couple of half chances were created and missed. Decision making was often poor when wild shots were chosen over passes to better placed players and vise-versa as the Lilywhites youngsters became ever more desperate.

The visitors were reduced to long and sometimes desperate clearances as they sought to hold on to their slender lead. But hold on they did, and it is North Ferriby and not Mossley that will play host to Crewe Alexandra in the 1st Round proper.
