Mossley put in a poor performance in going down to a fourth successive
home defeat and again for the fourth successive home game failed to
find the net and went down to a sucker punch goal 8 minutes from time.
With strikers Giggs and Downey unable to find a way through the visitors
defence and a general lack of penetrative ideas in midfield and on
the flanks Mossley struggled to find any rhythm and failed to create
a single chance of note in a dour first half.
Belper for their part had one good chance when Danylyk’s effort
was spectacularly palmed away by Ian Willcock.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Mossley again unable
to prize open a visiting defence that barely looked ruffled., That
was until the introduction of substitutes Leon Mike and Gavin Salmon
with Giggs switching to the right wing. Within seconds of Mike’s
arrival on the pitch Giggs burst down the wing and crossed well for
Mike to meet with a first time shot that came back off the foot of
the post. Salmon’s arrival saw him also almost score with his
first touch as he crashed a header off the underside of the bar that
was hooked to safety.
The result was decided when Mossley failed to clear after Steve Sheil
had conceded a free kick just outside the box and Belper substitute
Michael Allsop was on hand to score with a simple header.
Mossley,
then instead of pushing for an equaliser started to show their frustration
at the afternoon’s events and finished the game with a ridiculous
seven yellow cards after the pernickety referee Mr Allon decided to
stop the game every few seconds and wave cards around like they were
going out of fashion.
Definitely
not a Good Friday for Mossley!
