Mossley can feel somewhat hard done by in going down 2-1 at promotion chasing Ilkeston Town and leavbing a severe dent in the Lilywhitess increasingly slim play off hopes.
The game couldn't have started any better for the visitors as in only the fourth minute a raking ball down the right by Danny Meadowcroft found Rhodri Giggs in space and his inch perfect cross was powerfully headed home by Jordan Goodeve, making a surprise appearance in the number 9 shirt.

Chris Downey then had a half chance to double the lead before Ilkeston equalised with their first attack in the 7th minute. Lee Bracey mis-timed a punch and Justin Jenkins was on hand to score from close range.
With both teams desperate to win the game was stretched from very early as attacks swung from end to end. Downey was unlucky on more than one occasion while Jenkins and Goddard were a handful for the Mossley defence.
Leon Mike replaced the injured Andy Thackeray at the interval with the outstatnding Goodeve switching to right back and Mike had three good chances to put Mossley ahead. The keeper saved at point blank range when Mike seemed a certain scorer very early in the half, he then fired wide from a good position and failed to get power in a header when he looked a certain scorer from Adam Morning's raking left wing cross.
Rhodri Giggs was having plenty of joy on the right but the home side's increasingly desperate defence was somehow hanging on.
Late in the game Chris Downey was hauled back for a certain penalty right under the referee's nose with the right decision not given and then with the minutes ticking by Melford Knight had a great chance when the ball came back to him but his shot through a crowded defence flew narrowly wide.
Then came the sucker punch just two minutes from time. From the resulting goal-kick their was a definate hand-ball by an Ilkeston player in midfield but the ball somehow ended up in the Mossley area and Bracey again flapped at a cross and Justin Jenkins was in the right place to volley the winner into the roof of the net from close range.
Mossley still weren't for capitulating and a late corner caused havoc in the Ilkeston box but the home side clung on to consolidate in the play-off's while Mossley are now dependant on Eastwood Town dropping points in their remaining games to keep alive any hope of a top six finish.

Mossleyweb Man of the Match: Jordan Goodeve . . . even major positional switch didn't put him off his game!
Mossleyweb Verdict: Rub of the green - zero!
