Left sided central defender or wing back Steve Sheil signed for Mossley in February 2003 from Flixton having done the 2002 pre season at Mossley before signing for the Manchester club.

Sheil began his career as a junior with Blackpool and Rotherham United before moving into non league as a 17 year old with Droylsden. He then had spells with Curzon Ashton and Ramsbottom United.

He soon became an essential member of the Mossley set up and was a popular winner of the supporters Player of the Year award in Mossley's promotion winning 2003/04 season.

He made 179 appearances for the club scoring 19 goals before departing for a spell with Curzon Ashton at the beginning of the 2007/08 season. Returning to Mossley in October 2007.
