A scintilating first half performance was followed by a lethargic showing after the break as Mossley were forced to settle for a point at Spalding United.
It was Spalding who applied the pressure from the kick off and Lee Bracey did superbly to turn away Sowerby's drive that looked destined for the top corner in only the 2nd minute. However, Mossley looked an instant threat going forward with Matty Taylor and Josh Howard looking capable of turning their ageing markers inside out. It was the livewire Taylor who set up Mossley's opener on 8 minutes striding forward at pace he layed a pass to Rhodri Giggs that didn't go were intended. Taylor, like a flash chased his own pass and crossed low for Andy Thackeray who arrived from nowhere into the box to rifle home a first time shot.
Taylor was roasting veteran full back Steve Charles at every opportunity and Mossley came close to adding to their lead on more than one occasion. Chris Downey had a goal ruled out for a debatable off-side and Giggs was hauled back by his shirt without the correct award of a penalty as he teed up to shoot.
The outstanding Taylor unfortunately failed to complete the game as he was targeted by Dancy and ended up with a 'dead-leg' and was replaced just before the hour mark.
Mossley ought to have had the game sewn up by the interval and were made to pay for their missed opportunities as Spalding rallied and equalised through Liam Nimmo's close range effort on 56 minutes.
Giggs then had his effort ruled out for another dubious off-side and Spalding took the lead on 70 minutes. Danny Meadowcroft was harshly ajudged to have fouled Nimmo and Lee Sowerby ghosted in to head home the resultant floated free kick.
The Mossley equaliser duly arrived with ten minutes remaining. Man of the match Shaun Dootson arriving unmarked in an otherwise crowded box to blast home from eight yards.
Mossley had an opportunity to take maximum points but substitute Leon Mike fired over the bar from a good position and the spoils were shared!

Mossleyweb Man of the Match: Shaun Dootson...in influential form!
Mossleyweb Verdict: Disappointing result after a great start!
